Blades of Fire Community Top Tips
Last month, we asked our community if they had any top tips to share with newcomers and the response we got was brilliant. Many of you have developed a deep understanding of Blades of Fire in such a short space of time, which in itself, is very impressive, and we’re so happy many of you are open to sharing your advice with others. We want nothing more than to build a positively engaged community and it’s moments like this when we realise we’re on the right track. A big thank you to everyone that took the time get involved in our latest community blog. Hopefully, if you’re new around here, you’ll learn a thing or two! Let’s get started.
TOP TIPS FOR NEWCOMERS
High armour penetration and high durability cancels out high sharpening cost! This is because you won’t need to sharpen as often and when you do, you’ll have plenty of durability to spare.

Forge different weapon types to benefit from the seneschal statues you find. The number of upgrades for each weapon is limited, so you’ll need new weapons of the same family as you find more statues.
Explore every nook and cranny. There are many hidden secrets, including upgrades to health and stamina, that can be found through exploration.
Pay attention to cutscenes and dialogue. Many tips about combat or where to go next are found in the interactions with the NPCs in the game.
Choose the right weapon for the situation. Ideally, always use a weapon with green enemy outline (right damage type and penetration). Conserve your best weapon for tougher enemies.
Do not recycle your weapons, offer them to Glinda instead for better rewards the more you’ve used a weapon.
When forging, try to make the columns match the white line. Start from the left and work your way right.
All choices during forging impact the final weapon, both in stats and looks. Nothing is cosmetic only. Do not be afraid to experiment.
Read Adso’s notes. He tells you when new notes are available. They contain great tips, especially about the enemies and bosses you encounter.

Don’t get stuck looking how to access some areas. Some you have to just progress to get to!

Don’t forget you can change your weapon damage type if the weapon has more then one available.
Don’t know where to go after a cutscene? Read the loading screens for tips or use the objective marker option in start menu.
Don’t worry about finding every hidden secret or item your first time through an area, you can easy revisit and with better knowledge of the enemies, and better weapons later.
If forging weapons feels a bit intimidating or off, give it time. With doing it and experimenting with it, you will learn the intricacies of it more then you realize to where you actually start to feel like your learning how to FORGE (in the game at least)
Travel to prior areas in order to collect additional resources if needed.
Read the tips your companion documents on enemies in the bestiary, they can show weaknesses and tips on how to overcome them.

It’s worth pointing out your progress from the demo will carry over to the main game. I have played every demo imagined out there and stuff like this rarely ever happens. For those that are worried, don’t, because your progression will carry over to the full game!

Don’t panic if you get surrounded by hordes of smaller enemies, especially in Steel mode. Review what you know of whichever enemy type it is and make sure you have weaponry that fits both the enemy density and the arena size.
Don’t always rely on a choke point to make large groups easier. If you have, say, a long polearm and try a horizontal swing right in a doorway, you’re just going to bounce off a wall and (likely) take a hit! Use vertical strikes/pokes to make a gap, move in and defend a bit to gain full stamina, and do a few quick, non-charged horizontals to gain breathing room.
Additionally, teach yourself to avoid panic rolling. It burns through stamina and can prevent a lot of the best counterplay you might manage against more active foes. Full rolls have their uses, especially when you’re facing down attacks that can’t be blocked reliably and are hard to quick dodge, but you don’t want to do a bunch of full rolls and find yourself doing the world’s slowest swing afterwards because you bottomed out on stamina.

For me upgrading to the spear early made a big difference! I switch between it and the hammer depending on the fight – spear for fast enemies, hammer for breaking guards. Swapping weapons mid-fight has saved me more than once!

Master your craft in order to master your weapon!

Make sure you’re reading the tooltips during forging and using all of your techniques! My first few weapons I didn’t realize how intricate the strikes could be.

Remember to keep your weapons sharp and prioritize durability/sharpening cost over only focusing on getting damage numbers as high as possible when forging a new weapon!
Also don’t sleep on spears.

Community Blog – May 2025
May has been a huge month for us and we’re finally taking a moment to stop and reflect on everything that has happened in the last few weeks. As you know, we finally launched Blades of Fire across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Epic Games. This was a monumental moment for the team at MercurySteam and 505 Games, who have worked tirelessly on this title for so long. To finally take our community on the journey we’ve been forging for so many years is an incredible feeling. We did it! We actually did it!
LAUNCH TRAILER
Now, let’s look back at the last few weeks and update you on some of the things you might have missed.
DEMO LAUNCH
Remember when we told our community we weren’t looking at launching a demo? Well, that was always the case. We never had any plans to launch a demo. But, our community made it clear they wanted one. And we changed our mind and decided to give the fans what they wanted. On May 15th, we launched a playable demo of Blades of Fire across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Epic Games.
If you’ve not played it yet, well, we’ve packed a lot in the demo. Not only do you get the opportunity to play the first few hours of Blades of Fire, but should you decide to pick up the main game, you’ll be able to carry over your save data and progress. Pretty neat, right?

Welcome to our April 2025 Community Blog! It’s hard to believe that we’re less than one month away from launching Blades of Fire. It feels like yesterday we announced ‘Project Iron’ to the world and now we’re getting ourselves geared for launch. It’s pretty wild! But we’re excited and we know many of you are too!
Today, we want to reflect on the last few weeks and give you an insight into what’s around the corner.
HEADING STATESIDE
Last month, we packed our suitcases and flew stateside to San Francisco. With GDC in town, we wanted to give press in attendance the opportunity to check out Blades of Fire. GETTING STARTED IN BLADES OF FIREE
Since our last community blog, we’ve launched 2 more videos in our Blades of Fire – Getting Started series. This time, focusing on Weapon Mastery and Combat. Last month, MercurySteam and 505 Games officially announced Blades of Fire, formally known as Project Iron, as part of IGN FanFest. Launching May 22nd, 2025, Blades of Fire will be available on Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The response to our announcement has been truly wonderful, so before we kick things off, we want to say a massive thank you from the team.
Today, in our first monthly community blog, we want to take a moment to look back at everything we’ve unveiled so far, treat you to some behind the scenes concept art and answer some of your most frequently asked questions. Let’s get started.
ANNOUNCEMENT TRAILER
If you’re new around here, welcome! As mentioned already, during IGN FanFest last month, Blades of Fire was showcased to the outside world for the very first time. In case you missed it, watch our announcement trailer below.
FORGING OUR FIRST PREVIEW EVENT
Just days after announcing Blades of Fire, we made our way to the Quinnell School of Blacksmithing to host our very first preview event. We welcomed press and influencers to not only try their hand at forging in a real-life setting but also play Blades of Fire for the very first time. The sun was shining, the setting was perfect, and we had the best time with great company. A huge thank you to everyone that played a part in making the event a success. We couldn’t have done it without you!

One of the most frequently asked questions we’ve seen so far is whether we’re looking to launch a physical edition of Blades of Fire. Well, we’re delighted to confirm it’s happening! PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S users can pick up a copy on May 22nd, the same day as our digital launch. Check your preferred retailer for more information and to pre-order.

We know many of you are very keen to know more about the world of Blades of Fire. Will there be a physical edition of Blades of Fire?
As mentioned earlier in this blog, yes! Coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, the physical edition of Blades of Fire will launch on May 22nd, 2025, the same day as our digital release.
Are there plans for a demo?
There are no plans for a Blades of Fire demo. With how the game has been designed, a demo would only scratch the surface of what Blades of Fire offers. However, with launch just over 2 months away, you don’t have long to wait.
Do you have a creator program?
Yes we do! The 505 Creator Circle is a membership club for content creators who share the same passion we do – gaming! By becoming a member of the 505 Games Creator Circle, you will have the opportunity to enjoy behind the scenes content, unique gifts, access to exclusive events, panel discussions etc. For more information, head to the 505 Games website.

Is Blades of Fire a soulslike game?
Blades of Fire is an action-adventure featuring a unique combat system. There are some soulslike elements, but it is not a true soulslike!
